OVERCOMING BURNOUT
What Is Burnout
Burnout is a state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion that is caused by stress and overworked.
It happens fairly quickly and easily when you're giving so much of yourself to work, motherhood, wife, friends, family, and other things.
Burnout Symptoms
For daycare providers burnout can feel like:
- constant exhaustion, no matter the amount of sleep
- feeling irritable towards children and parents
- dreading your work, that once was loved
- Sunday scaries
- unmotivated
- can't stay organized
- headaches
- reoccurring sickness
- withdrawal from hobbies and social events
- procrastinating
You may feel all of these symptoms, none of them, or some of them. Burnout doesn't happen overnight; it builds up over time when your self care, boundaries, and rest are put on the back burner. Read more about The Top 7 Self Care Tips.
Great news is you can overcome burnout symptoms!
How To Deal With Burnout
Recognize the symptoms of burnout and immediately put into practice self care. You must prioritize yourself! It's not selfish! Put into place the self care tips I have included here.
Take time for yourself. What is the first thing a flight attendant tells you if there is a crash? Put your air mask on first! That also applies here. We can't pour from a cup that is already empty, so fill it up first.
As a daycare provider, we're constantly surrounded by the needs and demands of others. Don't be afraid to say no when it crosses your boundaries.
If possible, ask for help. Delegate business tasks to an assistant. Or ask your significant other to pick up some household chores.
Get to moving your body! I promise this helps increase your energy while releasing stress.
Seek support through a professional or other daycare provider. Be careful that the conversation with other providers doesn't turn into a vent and gossip session. This will only fuel your burnout symptoms.
Sleep girl!
Pray about it and seek His guidance and healing.
